CAN YOU MAKE ME RICH?
There is a sign on the side of my truck, ITEACHINVESTING.COM. Already today, a guy walks up to me at McDonalds and says “Are YOU going to make me RICH?” This same scenario happens for me at least a dozen times per week. Some ask it mockingly, others are serious. They soon make a decision about themselves.
My answer to him, and to you if you’re having the same thought as he, “I really don’t know if I can make you rich. ” Making Rich Happen is a personal decision that some make and many don’t. ”
“Do you buy stocks or any rental properties?”, I asked.
“#%&* NO” !!! “I’ve heard of too many people being hurt in stocks and I don’t know anything about them to boot”, he somewhat politely responded.
I then asked the man if he could drive a car and if he had any children driving age or nearing it. Well, of course he can drive, as does his wife, and they have a 13 year old daughter and a 14 year old son chomping at the bit for keys to their fairly new Tahoe.
I then asked my question, “If one of the children comes up to you tonight and asks, “Daddy, I want to go to a party tonight, can I have the keys?” “Will you just hand them over?”
It was an absurd question but I made my point. He would never allow one of his kids to have control over the proper operation of an asset unless they had DRIVER’s EDUCATION. Driver’s education for his children would relieve some of his and his wife’s fears and create independence for the children. He also let me know how scared he was of driving as a kid in New Jersey but that high school driver’s ed. taught him what he needed to know to be safe and successful.
FINANCIAL FEAR keeps many folks from taking control of their lives. I see way too many people scared to death and dependent on the government. Investing, whether it is in stocks, real estate, rental properties, or a small business is really SIMPLE, if you have the MINDSET and you have learned how to operate your assets in a safe and successful manner. Knowledge overcomes fear.
